Which diseases and pests should be noticed during spring tea

Most of the tea gardens start to sprout in early spring, typically around mid-March (excluding greenhouse-grown tea). During this period, the plants begin to produce new shoots, which are highly vulnerable to various pests and diseases. Common pests observed during the spring tea season include the tea leafworm, tea aphids, tea footworm, black tea tussock moth, tea caterpillar, snake eyelid, Changbai cricket, tea pheasant, black thorn whitefly, and tea orange pod. On the disease side, bud blight, white spot disease, and dark brown leaf spot are frequently reported. In recent years, some of these pests have shown localized infestations, requiring targeted pesticide application. For example, tea leafworms, tea aphids, tea puffer horses, and black locust whiteflies tend to appear in mid to late May and should be controlled during this period. Tea locust, tea caterpillar, and tea black poison moth often develop in concentrated areas. For small-scale infestations, manual removal or spraying is sufficient. However, when the problem spreads over a large area and causes significant damage, it's necessary to use chemical agents for effective control. For pests like tea leafworm, tea leafhopper, tea black poison moth, and tea caterpillar, you can use 2.5% Emulsifiable Concentrate (EC) of "Enemy Killer" at 20–25 ml per mu, 2.5% Uranus EC at 20 ml per mu, or 35% Sadan at 60–80 ml per mu. For tea pheasant, snake eyelid, Changbai cricket, tea puffer horse, and black thorn whitefly, 10% Imidacloprid powder at 20 g per mu is recommended. For tea orange pod, 30–30 ml of appropriate insecticide per mu is effective. It's important to note the safety intervals for these pesticides: "Enemy Killer" has a 5-day interval, Uranus requires 6 days, Sadan needs 7 days, and Imidacloprid has an interval of 7–10 days. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions and local regulations to ensure safe and effective pest management while protecting both the tea plants and the environment.
