Comprehensive Prevention and Control of Corn Sorghum

In July and August every year, the second and third generations of corn borers become a serious threat, especially for late-sown spring and summer corn. The damage caused by these pests is primarily due to larvae feeding on the leaves or the unopened heart leaves of the corn plant, resulting in a condition known as "leaf blight." As the infestation progresses, the larvae bore into the stem after the plant has tasselled, which disrupts ear development, reduces yield, and makes the stalks more prone to breaking at the entry points. To manage this issue effectively, it's recommended to take preventive measures when the leaf mosaic rate reaches 20% during the mid-growth stage, and 10% at the end of the leaf stage. For chemical control, you can use either 200 ml of BT emulsion per 667 square meters or 250 ml of an 18% insecticidal suspension diluted in water. After mixing with water, add 5 kg of furnace ash to create granules, which should be sprinkled directly into the corn’s heart to ensure effective pest control. This approach not only helps protect the crop from further damage but also ensures that the corn grows strong and healthy, leading to better yields and quality harvests. Regular monitoring and timely intervention are key to managing corn borer infestations successfully.
