Early garden bamboo afforestation technology

Woodland Finishing 1. Site Preparation Method: The process begins with Shushan clearing, which involves removing all forest debris, stones, tree ridges, and bamboo ridges to ensure a clean and ready planting area. This step is crucial for creating an optimal environment for new growth. 2. Depth of Site Preparation: The soil should be prepared to a depth of 30 cm to allow for proper root development and water drainage. 3. Hole Digging: Depending on the density, between 200 and 1,650 holes are dug per hectare. Each hole should measure 50 cm in length, 40 cm in width, and 40 cm in depth. This ensures sufficient space for the roots to spread and establish themselves. 4. Ditch Construction: A drainage ditch is created with a width of 25 cm and a depth of 30 cm. These ditches are spaced 6 to 8 meters apart to manage water flow effectively and prevent waterlogging. Mother Bamboo Selection 1. Quality of Mother Bamboo: Only healthy, vigorous mother bamboos with lush foliage and no signs of pests or diseases should be selected. These plants serve as the foundation for successful propagation. 2. Age of Mother Bamboo: The ideal age for mother bamboo is between 1 to 2 years old. At this stage, the plant is strong enough to support new growth but still young and flexible. 3. Size of Mother Bamboo: The diameter of the selected mother bamboo should range from 2 cm to 4 cm. This size ensures that the plant has sufficient strength and vitality for transplanting. Bamboo Excavation 1. Whip Selection: When digging up the bamboo, the whip (the underground stem) should be kept at a length of 10–15 cm, while the rhizome should be 20–30 cm long. It's important not to damage the whip buds or the rhizomes during excavation. At least five strong buds should be left intact to promote new shoots. Any blackened or aged whips should not be used as mother bamboo. 2. Soil Retention: Each plant should be carefully excavated with more than 10 kg of soil attached to its roots to minimize transplant shock and improve survival rates. 3. Branch Management: Leaves and branches should be trimmed to 4–7 sets, ensuring that the tips are cut cleanly without causing cracks. Thick foliage can be pruned slightly to reduce stress on the plant after transplanting. Afforestation Methods 1. Planting Technique: The selected bamboo whip is planted at a depth of 20–25 cm. The soil around the base should be packed tightly to eliminate air pockets and provide stability. After planting, the area should be watered thoroughly and a small mound of soil can be built around the base to help retain moisture. 2. Planting Time: The best time to plant is just before or after the plum blossom season, typically from early May to early June. Alternatively, planting can also be done in autumn (October–November) or during winter (December–February), depending on local climate conditions. 3. Planting Density: The recommended planting density ranges from 1,200 to 1,650 plants per hectare, depending on the species and site conditions. This spacing allows for adequate growth and reduces competition for nutrients and sunlight.
