Abbott launches automatic screening test for hepatitis B. Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and HBsAg confirmation tests can be used to screen hepatitis B infection in blood donors.
The Prism system was produced by Abbott (Abbott Park, Il, USA) and tested for hepatitis B. The Prism HB core antigen was recently approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. Other hepatitis and retroviral tests are being reviewed by the US FDA.
Already in 30 countries, the Prism system integrates inspection into a single system, enabling many manual inspections currently used for screening. Security measures integrated into the system help to track and monitor each specimen throughout the process, providing quality control and documentation for inspection staff. The Prism system processes 160 samples per hour and is capable of detecting more than 1,200 samples in 8 hours.
