Effective crayfish breeding model

Crayfish farming is becoming an increasingly popular and profitable practice in reservoirs, rice fields, and ponds. This year, our province is focusing on promoting crawfish cultivation in hilly regions, offering new opportunities for local farmers. As a crayfish expert, Yang Zhihang is eager to share practical techniques and models that can be applied in these areas. He recommends three effective farming methods: First, single-cultivation in ponds, which can yield between 1,000 to 3,000 catties per mu. It's important to plant aquatic vegetation to provide shade and improve water quality. Second, shrimp farming in paddy fields using the "1-7" model: one field is used for building field ridges, two for creating shrimp ponds, and seven for growing rice. This method allows for approximately 500 pounds of shrimp and 1,000 pounds of rice per mu. Third, a polyculture system where shrimp are the main species, with 20% of the area dedicated to white peony for water purification. This approach can produce around 1,000 kilograms of shrimp and 400–500 kilograms of fish per mu. These models not only maximize land use but also promote sustainable aquaculture. By combining traditional farming with modern techniques, farmers can achieve higher yields while maintaining environmental balance. Whether you're a seasoned farmer or just starting out, these methods offer a great way to diversify income and boost productivity.
