Chinese cabbage root control

Cabbage rootworm is one of the most destructive pests that affect cabbage crops. These pests feed on the outer layer of the roots, creating wounds that allow soil-borne pathogens to enter, leading to root rot and plant decay. If not controlled in time, infestations can spread rapidly across entire fields, causing significant economic losses for vegetable farmers. To effectively manage cabbage rootworm, several preventive and control measures can be implemented: 1. **Soil Treatment Before Planting**: Prior to sowing, apply 2.5 to 3.5 kg of phoxim granules per mu (approximately 667 square meters) mixed with chemical fertilizers and incorporated into the soil. This helps eliminate eggs and larvae of the rootworm in the soil, reducing the risk of infestation from the start. 2. **Ground Spraying**: When the cabbage plants have developed 2 to 3 true leaves, spray the field ground with 1.5 kg of 2.5% trichlorfon powder per acre. This helps prevent adult seed flies from laying eggs in the field, thus breaking the pest’s life cycle early. 3. **Root Application**: Once the cabbage has grown to 6 to 8 leaves, mix grass ash, lime powder, and 2.5% trichlorfon powder in a ratio of 2:1:1. Apply this mixture around the base of the plants to create an unfavorable environment for egg-laying and to kill any existing larvae. 4. **Foliar and Root Drenching**: If root damage is detected, immediately irrigate the roots with a solution of 90% crystal trichlorfon diluted at a ratio of 600 to 800 times. This treatment helps control the infestation quickly and prevents further damage. By combining these methods, farmers can significantly reduce the impact of cabbage rootworm and protect their crops from serious yield losses. Regular monitoring and timely intervention are key to effective pest management.
