How much to drink each day

The Spring Festival is approaching, experts from the 302 Hospital of the People's Liberation Army Chen Guofeng remind people that the amount of alcohol in the Spring Festival needs to be appropriate, and heavy drinking will damage the liver and even lead to alcoholic liver disease.

According to Chen Guofeng, research shows that Chinese people drink more than 40 grams of alcohol per day (equivalent to 100 milliliters of white wine, 500 milliliters of red wine, or 1,000 milliliters of beer) and liver damage can occur five years later. Women are more prone to alcoholic liver disease than men because of their smaller size and higher fat content.

Chen Guofeng said that patients with alcoholic liver disease generally do not have obvious symptoms at the initial stage, and mild cases may be asymptomatic. However, as the disease progresses, the patient will experience abdominal distention, fatigue, liver discomfort, and anorexia. A large number of drinkers should seek medical attention as soon as possible after the above symptoms occur, while long-term drinkers should regularly visit a regular hospital for liver function tests.

Chen Guofeng reminded that people must control their drinks and drink less during the Spring Festival dinner. People who have limited drinking capacity but have to drink on certain occasions may wish to take two "sake pills" that can accelerate the decomposition of alcohol before drinking. Patients who have developed alcoholic liver disease but still continue to consume alcohol must not only be treated for liver disease, but should also receive psychotherapy.
