Trichogramma Technology to Control Bee-feeding Technology in Corn Field

**Bee Technology Guide** 1. **Number of Bee Releases**: Release three batches of bees. The first release should occur when the corn borer pupae rate reaches 13-15%. After 10 days, release the second batch. Then, wait 5 days before releasing the third batch. 2. **Total Number of Bees per Acre**: A total of 15,000 bees per acre are recommended. The first release is 0.5 million bees per acre, followed by 0.5 million each for the second and third releases. 3. **Placement of Bees**: Place two bee points per mu (approximately 667 square meters). Each point covers about 334 square meters. 4. **Method of Bee Release**: (1) **Tearing the Bee Card**: Based on the number of bees to be released, tear the large bee card into smaller pieces. Each parasitic egg should have approximately 80-100 bees, with two cards per acre. (2) **Setting the Bee Points**: Place two bee cards per acre. For each acre, start from the top of the field and measure 67 cm between ridges. The 9th ridge is the first placement point, and the first bee card is placed at 14 meters from the edge. From there, place the next bee card 28 meters further. Continue this pattern across the field. If there are more than 9 ridges, adjust placements accordingly. If the field has fewer than 9 ridges, only one bee point is placed. On the other side of the field, repeat the same pattern. (3) **Attaching the Bee Card to Corn Plants**: After selecting a healthy corn plant, take a middle leaf and tear it along the main vein. Fold half of the leaf and insert the bee card facing downward (with the bee facing down), then gently roll it into a tube. Secure it with a piece of cloth or thread. **Precautions**: (1) Farmers must release the bee cards on the same day they receive them. In light rain, release is still possible. If heavy rain occurs, store the cards in a cool, ventilated area away from pesticides. (2) Always tear the bee card by hand—never use scissors. Any eggs that fall during tearing should be collected and reattached to white paper. (3) When hanging the card, avoid rolling it too tightly, as this may harm the bees. Do not place the card inside the corn leaves; it should be attached directly to the stem. (4) After placing the bee card in the field, the bees will gradually emerge over 2-3 days. A small hole will appear on the egg shell, indicating successful emergence. (5) Avoid using pins or toothpicks, as these can cause damage during harvesting and lead to accidents. (6) When releasing bees, consider wind direction and speed. In strong winds, increase the number of release points or the number of bees in the upwind areas, and reduce them in the downwind areas. (7) No pesticide should be applied within 4 days before the bee release and within 20 days after the release in the treated corn fields. This guide ensures optimal placement and care for the bees, maximizing their effectiveness in controlling corn borers.
