Potato potato residue can make protein feed

Recently, researchers from Harbin Institute of Technology have made gratifying progress in the research of producing single-cell protein feeds from spent potato residues. Researchers not only screen out the best combinations of strains that produce cellular proteins, but also design and develop a complete process route for the production of single-cell protein feeds from potato waste. The use of liquid residue for the production of cellular proteins from the addition of juice from potato juice is first proposed and applied at home and abroad.

China has an annual output of more than 7,000 tons of potatoes and has processed more than 340 million tons of starch residues. The potato dregs are rich in cellulose, hemicellulose and crude protein substances. The amino acid composition is complete. The content of crude protein in the bacterial protein is as high as 40%-50%, and it has good growth promoting effects on livestock and poultry. Its biological value is excellent. For plant protein feeds. Due to the lack of scientific and effective treatment technologies, a large amount of potato waste resources can not be effectively used, and any waste of potato residue and sewage generated during the starch production process will also cause serious pollution to the environment.

Professor Yang Qian of the Institute of Biological Engineering of Harbin Institute of Technology, supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Science and Technology Support Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology, has led the research group to carry out preparatory work for the production of single cell protein feeds from potato residues in 2004. They took the potato starch as the main raw material during the processing of potato starch, used yeast and other fungicides to produce a single cell protein strain screening combination scheme, and obtained eight strains of high-efficiency strains suitable for production of single cell proteins, and determined production orders through pilot tests. The optimum fermentation process conditions for cell proteins, and the establishment of a complete process route for the production of single-cell protein feeds from potato residues, the products have been fully tested by authoritative departments and have laid a solid foundation for the industrialization of the results.

The research results have now applied for two national invention patents and signed cooperation agreements with several large potato processing companies. The industrialization prospects are optimistic.
