A team from the National Human Genome Research Institute has developed a new facial recognition technology that diagnoses a rare genetic disease called Di George Syndrome in a non-white population.

Paul Kruszka, a geneticist from NHGRI, explains: "The manifestations of human malformation syndrome vary from place to place around the world. Even experienced clinicians have difficulty diagnosing genetic syndromes other than Europeans." Face recognition technology can be used at this time.
After studying the photo information of patients with rare diseases in Africa, Asia and Latin America, NHGRI's team finally developed a facial diagnostic method with 96.6% successful recognition rate in the experiment. The research team also said that this technology can also be used in the diagnosis of Down syndrome.
Although facial diagnostic techniques are still immature, scientists plan to delve into it until it can help medical workers around the world. One day, doctors can get facial analysis information and diagnostic results with only the patient's photo.
