Cuttage is widely used as a kind of economical and simple seedling propagation method. However, some seedlings have a relatively high initial mortality rate. The author summarizes and analyzes based on years of production practice experience as follows:

First, the cause of death Defoliation seedlings cut about one month after the "false holiday", usually about 20 days, this time is the peak of death, the reasons are the following aspects

1. Stripe collection is a kind of strip collection time is too early. Seedlings are not harvested when they are not yet ligneous. Whether or not branches are enriched directly affects the amount of nutrients in the body, and nutrients accumulated in the cuttings are the main source of new organs and nutrients needed for initial growth after cutting. The second is collecting shoots from an over-aged mother tree. The metabolism is weak, the vitality and adaptability are reduced, and the survival rate of cuttings is low. The third is that the specifications of the strips do not meet the standards, and only the strip length is ignored and the thickness is ignored. The thicker the branches of the same age, the better, but also have a certain length. The poor storage of the cuttings resulted in water loss.

2. Kind of treatment. One is that the collected strips are not collected with cuttings, and no necessary preservation measures are taken for the strips and the sheared cuttings, resulting in dehydration of strips and cuttings. Second, when the ear was cut, it was not graded according to the standard size, only the quantity was required, and the shoot section was reluctant to give up, resulting in unequal thickness of cuttings, uneven lengths, unsmooth cuts, and injuries to cuttings. Third, improper storage and cutting methods, open sand sites were not selected in the shade, storage was too shallow or too deep, the sand used was not up to standard, and the cuttings were infected by pathogens. Fourth, the activity of soft tissue at the base of stored cutting roots was not obvious, and there was no sign of “fat”.

3. Cutting. The cuttings are completely inserted into the soil, and the top buds are not exposed on the ground. It is difficult for the cutting buds to break through the soil and cause burns or rot of the buds. After being covered with the mulching film, cuttings are directly inserted, which results in sticking of the basal membrane of the root of the cutting root, impeding the absorption of respiration and nutrients, and affecting the formation of adventitious roots.

Second, the corresponding measures

1. Select the appropriate cutting time. Deciduous seedling cuttings are generally from mid-March to mid-April, and the autumn should be frozen in the soil from December to December. The regeneration ability of the annual cuttings is the strongest, and the annual sprouting of the mother tree rhizome can be used, and the diameter should reach 0.8 cm or more.

2. Properly handle the strips. Should be based on "with the cut along with the cut" principle, coarse branches short cut, twigs stay long, cut about 15 cm in length, thickness and separation, tied bale. If the autumn storage cuttings are cut in spring, the open sand method can be used. Choose leeward sunny, well-drained land to dig trenches, the depth of 50-70 cm, bundles of branches storage, check the temperature and humidity every month. Storage matrix should meet the standard of pure sand.

3. Take care to protect the terminal buds. To prevent backward insertion, insert the depth to insert soil into the soil 3/4 is appropriate, the use of mulching, cutting the mulch film should be broken and then cut. Autumn cuttings are susceptible to air-drying and freezing damage, and should be earth-covered after cuttings.
