Postpartum cow feeding techniques

Postpartum cows should be observed for postpartum discharge of their placenta, if the placenta is not discharged within 48 hours after delivery, the veterinarian should be promptly treated. Incomplete discharge of the placenta should also be treated to prevent inflammation of the uterus and affect future fertility.
The cow is weak after delivery and feels very tired and thirsty. 15 to 20 kilograms of warm wheat bran salt water soup should be given (its formula is: 1 to 1.5 kg of wheat bran in 10 liters of water, 50 to 100 grams of salt, and brown sugar 0.5~ 1 kg, Motherwort or Motherwort Cream 1 kg) or porridge, to supplement the body's consumption of water at delivery and to restore strength, prevent postpartum constipation in dairy cows. If the cow is fed with a certain amount of amniotic fluid in time after delivery, it will be beneficial for the smooth discharge of the fetus.
Postpartum cows should be given better care and should be housed as much as possible. The diets should be based on easily digestible, full-scale green roughage, such as various silages, high quality hay, a small amount of fine materials. 2 to 3 days after childbirth, 2 to 3 kilograms of high quality hay are fed, and the quantity is increased from small to large. Wheat bran and corn are properly supplied to control milking. Four to five days after delivery, the fine material, juicy material, and silage are gradually increased according to the situation. The amount of material and hay, fine material daily increase 0.5 ~ 1 kg, until 7 ~ 8 days to achieve the feed standard, the daily intake of dry matter in the proportion of concentrate feed gradually reached 50% to 55%, generally fed mixed roughage 10 ~15 kg. By 15 days after birth, the amount of silage reached 20 kilograms, hay 3 to 4 kilograms, and juicy feed 3 to 4 kilograms. In the process of increasing the concentrate, the feces and breasts of the cow must be observed. If the edema does not subside, the concentrate and the juicy material should be appropriately reduced. Cows should be given warm water within 1 week after giving birth. Cold water should not be used to prevent illness. It is forbidden to feed forages that are difficult to digest, large in volume, promote diarrhea and constipation, and are not fresh and moldy.
