Agricultural trucks change tires

When operating a farm vehicle, it's common for tires to become flat, punctured, or damaged. Knowing how to quickly and properly replace a spare tire is essential for maintaining productivity and safety. The following steps will help you change a tire efficiently and correctly. Always remember the direction of the wheel bolts. The nuts on the right-side wheel are typically right-handed (standard thread), while those on the left side are left-handed (reverse thread). This means that when loosening the left-side nut, you should turn it clockwise, and when tightening, turn it counterclockwise. This prevents cross-threading and ensures proper fastening. To avoid warping the hub or putting uneven pressure on the bolts, use a diagonal or cross-tightening method when securing the nuts. A 3- or 4-point twisting pattern can also be effective in distributing force evenly across all bolts. Before starting, use a socket wrench to loosen the wheel nuts slightly, but don’t remove them completely yet. Then, raise the vehicle using a jack until the tire just lifts off the ground. At this point, fully loosen the nuts and carefully remove the wheel. Apply a thin layer of lithium-based or calcium-based grease on the threads before reattaching the wheel. This helps prevent galling and makes future removal easier. Align the bolt holes precisely to avoid damaging the threads. Tighten the nuts by hand first, then use a torque wrench to snug them up. Lower the jack slowly and ensure the wheel touches the ground before final tightening. Use a torque of 200–400 N·m, tightening each nut in a cross pattern for even distribution. When reinstalling the tire assembly, make sure the valve stem is aligned with the bevel of the rim. This ensures a secure fit and proper air retention. For twin-wheeled rear axles, there are some additional considerations: If the two tires show different levels of wear, the tire with a larger diameter and less wear should be placed on the outside. This helps maintain stability on curved or arched roads. If only the outer tire needs replacement, tighten the inner nuts first, followed by the outer ones. This maintains balance and prevents uneven loading. When replacing both tires at the same time, lift the axle twice—once to install the inner tire and again to mount the outer one. This ensures proper positioning and alignment. Also, check that the brake clearance inspection holes on both wheels are staggered. This allows for easier access during maintenance. Finally, position the tire valves symmetrically so that air pressure can be checked and adjusted conveniently.
